Cryogenics

Cryogenics (sub-zero / freezing)

These are specialist processes where the components are treated at a temperature below zero degree Celsius.

After hardening it may be necessary to take materials to below 0°c, or it can be an additional step in the hardening process to reach optimal results in hardness and structure of the material.

specialised heat treatment and surface technologies

The process can also be used to age or stabilise specific materials or to assist with full transformation to an ideal microstructure following a primary heat treatment such as through or case hardening or as part of an aging process.

The required temperature depends on the grade of steel that is used. At our facilities we have capabilities to cool to -100°c.
