Nitrotec® Reliability

The Nitrotec® process produces a bearing surface with superb corrosion resistance. Nitrotec enhances the surface and strength characteristics of a range of steels and cast irons.

Yield strength is greatly improved – for sheet steel this can be double or treble, giving designers a much stronger/stiffer component, or the option to reduce weight

Wear resistance is greatly improved, both by the high surface hardness and the increase in lubricity. Nitrotec can absorb and hold oils and greases inside micro-porosity.

Corrosion performance is usually much higher than most plating processes. Nitrotec is environmentally friendly and future-proof, with a low carbon footprint. We have won environmental awards.

Nitrotec is a green, environmental friendlier, alternative to Zinc and hard chrome plating.

Improvements in component performance made possible by Nitrotec can significantly reduce the manufacturing and materials cost of components, a fact proved repeatedly by the automotive industry as they use treated pressed and turned products.

In common with other low temperature surface treatments supplied by Aalberts Surface Technologies Ltd, Nitrotec does not introduce distortion into the part, this means that components can be used and fitted directly after treatment.


 
 
 

Surface finish changes very little due to the Nitrotec process. This means that many surface critical bearing surfaces (such as automotive brake caliper pistons)can be used without any post process polishing.

However, for those components where the ultimate finish is required, we can provide NITROTEC-S, a multi-stage process, where parts are first machined to a final surface finish required, Nitrotec treated, surface polished in a controlled manner, followed by a post oxidising treatment. This finish gives a dramatic improvement in frictional characteristics and corrosion resistance properties, superior to those obtained when using hard chromium plating techniques. 

Nitrotec can treat a very wide range of components – from pistons and cylinders over a tonne in weight, to pressings, pins and and finely threaded screws.
